Education

As land becomes more scarce, and urban populations continue to rise, the pressure on space for quality learning for all ages increases.  The ability to design tall buildings in cities, using sustainable principles is not new.  However, what is still unclear is the best form (size of floor plates, height) of new buildings to efficiently operate and maintain whilst providing the quality of teacher - student care, and student-student interactions.

Movissian has the expertise and knowledge to help understand the estimated performance of urban (vertical) schools, as well as university campuses. Our staff have collaborated with architects and State education departments on several vertical schools in NSW and VIC to understand the right balance between stairs, escalators and lifts. And then provided the insights to help create a natural, intuitive balance of usage based on design and stacking arrangements. We have also worked on projects to improve pedestrian experience, by working closely with architects to test their vision of how a university campus can integrate seamlessly within a laneway metaphor of its city. We examine both the building(s) and the precinct and utilise our transport experience to test the impact of light rail stops and other campus located transport hubs.

Movissian can help State education departments and universities understand the impact of different designs, operations or future growth impacts during morning, lunchtime and afternoon leaving periods.
